Instructions for using a Golden Teacher Spore Vial
The bottle caps are made of a circular rubber membrane. The rubber membrane, or septa, can be penetrated by a syringe needle, but it prevents airflow, microorganisms, or anything else from passing through on its own.
Shake the Golden Teacher Spore Bottle vigorously to evenly distribute the spores inside the bottle. Remove the protective cap from the top of the bottle and use an alcohol preparation to disinfect the septa. Unpack the sterile syringe and remove the protective needle cap. Insert the syringe needle through the septum.
The tip of the needle should be immersed in the spore solution. Slowly retract the syringe plunger to fill the syringe with spore solution. It only takes 3 milliliters of spore solution to colonize 1 liter or 1.05 liters of substrate. After filling the syringe with the desired amount of spore solution, carefully remove the needle from the vial. To get from here to the inoculation process, you have several methods to choose from:
Deposit the spore solution on the substrate
After preparing your own substrate or cakes, you can drop the Golden Teacher spore solution directly from the syringe onto it. Slowly press the plunger so that droplets of spore solution come out of the needle. Each droplet in contact with the substrate is a potential place for mycelium growth. Spread these droplets on the substrate evenly to colonize the substrate with mycelium.
Injection through the injection ports
This is pretty much the same as pouring the spore solution onto the substrate. To open the injection port, pull the port protection cap back. To disinfect the injection port entrance, use alco-prep. With the needle, pierce the hole. Now spread the spore solution evenly around the substrate inside the spawn bag or grow box. Remove the syringe after injecting the Golden Teacher Spore Solution, and cover the injection port with the port protection cap.
Liquid culture for faster colonization and stronger mycelium
When injecting Golden Teacher Spore Solution into a nutrient-rich bath, such as Liquid Culture Medium, the spores transform into mycelium inside this liquid suspension. This is called liquid culture, abbreviated LC. It is possible to inoculate substrates and cakes using liquid growing medium. Liquid culture media have a higher success rate and will be much more reliable than spore germination without LC. Using LC will increase the probability of finding mushrooms.
Note: Liquid culture medium will not work well with our spore syringes.
Study the spores and do research using a microscope
From a scientific point of view, all Psilocybe cubensis are the same. However, their appearance and fruiting rate (phenotype) vary somewhat. There are different distinct phenotypes of Psilocybe cubensis. These several cubensis are not subspecies but rather distinct strains. Golden Teacher is a variety of Psilocybe cubensis.
Phenotypic distinctions are visible to the human eye, but true beauty lies under the microscope. The wonderful world of spores Many of our clients are scientists doing research in makeshift laboratories on these discrepancies. After preparing your microscope slide, place a small amount of Golden Teacher spore solution on it. Cover the specimen with a covering glass for a microscope. 1000x or more is the optimal magnification for studying the spores of Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens.
The syringe and its reuse
After using the syringe to inoculate the substrate, cake, or LC with Golden Teacher, you can reuse the empty syringe after sterilizing the needle. This can be done with an alcohol burner or a lighter. Burn the needle by keeping it in the flame long enough to make it glow orange. Let it cool before inserting the needle again. Instead of reusing one, you can also order a sterile needle separately.
Store the Golden Teacher bottle in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C, or 35°F and 46°F. Leave the “protective septa cap” in place when storing the vial.
